WINTER’S GREETING

Encountering

The Season of Winter

This particular time of the year is most suited for watching the snowfall while reminiscing about someone dear.

I imagine you handing me a cup of coffee, its steam rising in the cold air, and I picture the warmth of your embrace.

Is it snowing where you are?

The Sound of Snow Falling

First Snow

There’s always a hint of romance in those first snowfalls.

Dimly lit street lamps

Flitting snowflakes

When gazing up at the night sky

One can see a deluge of snowflakes

It seems even shadows

Have become sweet

The Scene——《——Writing Guidance

Step 1: Understand the Prompt.

Observe a natural phenomenon or a natural landscape, describing its changing characteristics and your observations.

Step 2: Develop the Theme.

Express your feelings toward all natural phenomena or landscapes.

Step 3: Mind Map.

Step 4: Methodology.

1. Capture Key Features Through Close Observation. Nature is brimming with diverse phenomena and landscapes, each with unique characteristics. Only through meticulous observation can we depict them accurately, creating an immersive experience for the reader. Therefore, after selecting the subject, students must observe carefully to grasp its essence.

2. Describe in a Logical Sequence. When writing about a natural phenomenon, follow a chronological order—for instance, describing a sunrise by its pre-dawn, mid-rise, and post-sunrise phases. For a landscape, adopt a spatial sequence, such as moving from far to near in a “View from the Window” composition.

3. Focus on Changes to Showcase Form. No natural feature remains static; they are constantly evolving. Thus, in our descriptions, we must highlight these transformations to bring the scene to life, making it vivid and immersive.

4. Employ Appropriate Writing Techniques. To make natural phenomena or landscapes vivid, we can indulge in rich imagination, using descriptive adjectives and rhetorical devices like metaphors and personification. This approach ensures our writing is concrete, evocative, and deeply resonates with readers.

WINTER

Those days of first snow—whom did you share them with? I recall school days filled with joy and excitement during initial snowfalls. Huddling near heating pipes, drowsy in the afternoon, the sudden arrival of snow could stir the entire campus. Those first snow days—whom did you share them with? I remember school days.

WINTER

The Winter That Arrives as Promised

Snowy Scenery

Upper Primary School Grade 5, Li Jinyang

Winter resembles a magician; because of winter, the earth has “Sudden Snowfall Like a Spring Breeze, Pear Trees and Willows in Thousands and Ten Thousand”; it has “Yellow Clouds Stretching a Thousand Li, White Sun Veiled, North Wind Blows雁Snow”; it has “Autumn Moon Shines Bright, Winter Peaks Show Cold Pines.” Snow, originally a pure white substance, transforms an ordinary winter into something beloved.

One morning, I looked out the window, and it was snowing heavily. Snowflakes danced gracefully in the air like tiny white fairies. The snow fell in abundance, covering the ground with a thick blanket.

This winter, the snow fell exceptionally heavily, freezing sparkling ice crystals on the trees, breathtakingly beautiful. I plucked an ice crystal, blew on it, and the snowflakes scattered like dandelion seeds, dancing everywhere. The snow continued to fall, translucent and fluffy, fluttering outside the window like downy feathers.

I gazed into the distance and saw students playing snowball fights in the snow, laughing and chasing each other, covered in snow. Some built a large snowman, their faces flushed like apples from the cold.

Close by, houses were covered in thick white blankets, with snow clinging to the dry branches. The ground was carpeted with a thick layer of white, as if stepping into a fairyland. In the blink of an eye, the snow had piled up over a foot deep, soft and fluffy, making a delightful squeaking sound underfoot, truly enchanting!

I immersed myself in the window view, utterly captivated by the magnificent snowscape. We adore winter—it is a fashion designer, draping the earth in snow-white garments; a musician, composing symphonies in various styles; we love winter—it is a stern teacher, using cold and snow as a ruler to instill in us the resilience of will.

Watching the stream of pedestrians

The warm first snow

Adorning the city’s grandeur

May this first snow

Allow you to spend it with your dearest
