在英语中，虽然“in the name of”与“under the name of”外观类似，但其背后的含义却稍有差异。
（1）“in the name of”主要用来表达“以……的名义”或“用……的名字”。
例如：她以母亲的身分进行了那项操作。
“She did it in her mother’s name.”（这句话直译为中文是：“她以母亲的名义做了那件事。”）
又比如：我们以的名义，真诚地祝贺你们的伟大成就和胜利。
“In the name of the Chinese people， we sincerely congratulate you on your brilliant success and great victory.”（这句话传达出一种正式且庄重的祝贺之情。）
再如：让我们以法律为名，正义为剑，揭开真相的面纱。
（2）“under the name of”则有“在……名义之下”的意思，隐不公开真实姓名，或以……为掩饰（如化名、假名、笔名等）的意味。
比如：他以鲁迅为笔名创作了这本小说。
又比如：他们借着慈善事业的幌子，做了很多不法之事。
“They did lots of evil things under the name of charity.”（这句话揭示了某些或个人以慈善为名，实则进行不法活动的现象。）
