在上一期的分享中，我们提到了职场沟通的重要性。今天，我们将深入探讨如何用英文恰当地赞美您的上司。
在职场环境中，称赞上司需要掌握一定的技巧，否则容易被视为奉承，从而引起反感。作为职场人士，我们与上司的沟通是不可避免的，适当地表达对上司的尊重和认可，是建立良好关系的重要环节。
然而，许多职场新人往往难以把握称赞的尺度。我们认为，无论是称赞任何人，都应遵循以下三点原则：忽视这三点，你的赞美可能会显得虚伪；掌握好这三点，你的赞美将被视为真诚的认可。
- 避免过度夸张 Avoid excessive flattery
- 避免不当比较 Avoid inappropriate comparisons
- 避免泛泛而谈 Avoid vague praise
在称赞上司时，切忌过度夸张。一旦夸张，就会显得不真实，甚至可能让人误以为你在反话。
例如：I don’t know how George manages to be so perfect all the time.（我不知道乔治是怎么一直保持完美的。）
没有人是完美的，这种夸张的表达方式应尽量避免。我们可以直接指出上司的优点，例如：George consistently demonstrates strong leadership and professionalism, and I have learned a lot from working with him.
这样的表达方式，提供了具体的优点，显得更加得体。
在称赞上司时，特别要注意避免“拉踩”。在外企中，这种“拉踩”式的夸赞会被视为“Backhanded Compliments”（带有讽刺意味的恭维）。通过拉踩的方式恭维他人，是一种不专业的表现，我们应该尽量避免。例如，以下这种说法就是典型的拉踩式夸赞：
George is the best boss I’ve ever had. He’s so much better than his predecessor.（乔治是我见过的最好的老板，他比他的前任好多了。）
这里的第一句话“the best boss I’ve ever had”就已经是一种拉踩，后面的表述更是进一步拉踩了前任老板。这种表述非常不合适。所有职场人士都应注意，称赞他人时，应真诚地表达，避免做对比。千万不要说“张三比李四好多了”这样的话。
要称赞他人，就直接称赞这个人。例如：
George has been a great boss and has provided excellent leadership and support.（乔治是一个很好的老板，他为我们提供了出色的领导力和支持。）
当我们不知道如何称赞他人时，往往会使用比较宽泛的词语。例如“张三很好”，“张三不错”。“很好”和“不错”这类表达，虽然表示了正面的态度，但缺乏具体内容，让人觉得敷衍。英文中也是如此，以下这些表达方式就显得过于宽泛和敷衍：
- George is a great leader. （ 乔治是个好领导。）
- George is very intelligent. （乔治很聪明。）
- George is such a hard worker. （乔治是个很努力的人。）
上述三个句子都是非常宽泛的表扬，没有任何具体内容，给人一种敷衍的感觉。其实，只要加入一些细节，就可以避免这种敷衍。我们可以思考一下“好领导”有哪些具体表现，“很聪明”包含哪些层面，“努力”可以体现在哪些方面，然后将这些细节表达出来，就不会显得敷衍了。以下是一个例子：
让我们用“具体表现”来改写一下上面的三句话，我会用几种不同的句式来演示。大家可以注意一下，划线的表达是“具体表现”，没有划线的部分是模版式的表达。
我根据句子的难度分出了初级、中级、高级三个等级。大家可以根据自己的水平选择适合的表达。这些表达都比较正式，适用于比较正规的场合。
George is a great leader.
- 初级：I appreciate how George and .
- 中级：I am truly thankful for the way George consistently and .
- 高级：I am deeply impressed by the way in which George consistently and .
George is very intelligient.
- 初级：I’ve been impressed by George’s . His and are a big help to the team.
- 中级：I have been quite impressed by the way George consistently . His and are invaluable assets to the team.
- 高级：I have been highly impressed by the way in which George consistently His and are truly invaluable assets to the team.
George is such a hard worker.
- 初级：I really appreciate George’s and dedication to
- 中级：I greatly value George’s and dedication to .
- 高级：I am deeply appreciative of and that George consistently demonstrates on behalf of the team.
根据下表中的“具体表现”，把“ George is very nice. ”这种宽泛的表达，改得具体一点。
我们用下面这两个句式
模版一：I really appreciate the way George A and B.（挑选两个“具体表现”）
模版二：I have noticed that George consistently demonstrates A and B by C and D. These abilities have been a valuable asset to the team. （注意A，B，C，D之间的逻辑关系，造句时要适当改变关键词的词性，以保证句子的语法是对的）
